Today marks the first installment of Spooning's "Delicious Verses"—poems about food. Molly Fisk's poem is, I think, a very nice break from the carnage of Meat Madness—though there is more to come on that subject. In an interesting aside to the squirrel recipe and story, it has been reported that the Brits are scarfing up gray squirrels faster than they can be trapped, as a way to protect the threatened native red squirrel population. And this video recipe for Squirrel Melts is definitely worth a look—I love how she says she's "putting its little tender butt" in the poaching water...
